Understanding US Tipping Culture
Netraweb Β· June 11, 2026
Tipping is part of everyday culture in the US. Knowing the norms by situation keeps you from being caught off guard.
Norms by situation
- Restaurants (table service): 15β20% of the pre-tax total
- Delivery: 10β15% or at least $3β5
- Salons / nails: 15β20%
- Taxi / Uber: 10β15%
- Counter orders (fast food): usually not needed
When paying by card, a tip option often appears on screen. Tip more for exceptional service, and for large parties check whether gratuity is already included on the receipt to avoid double tipping.
