Getting a Driver License — DMV Guide

In the US a driver license is an essential item, widely used as ID too. The process differs slightly by state, but the overall flow is similar.

Basic steps

1. Prepare residency and identity documents (passport, visa, proof of address, etc.)
2. Pass the written test (traffic laws) to get a permit
3. Practice, then take the road test
4. Receive your full license once you pass

Even with a Korean license, most states require you to retake both the written and road tests. The DMV is often appointment-based, so book online in advance and practice the written questions using your state handbook.
