Checklist

• Check accident and ownership history via Carfax/AutoCheck
• Get a pre-purchase inspection at a mechanic
• Check market value on KBB/Edmunds before negotiating
• Confirm the title status and transfer process

Dealers offer easier warranties and paperwork but higher prices; private sales are cheaper but require managing risk. If your credit is limited the interest rate will be high, so paying part in cash can help.
