1. Apply for an SSN
Your Social Security Number is the foundation for work, banking, and credit. Apply at a Social Security Administration (SSA) office; the required documents vary by visa type.
2. Open a bank account
Open both a checking and a savings account, and check how to waive the monthly maintenance fee. Many banks let you open an account with a passport and an ITIN even before your SSN arrives.
3–7. Phone, driver license, address, health insurance, local essentials
Compare carrier plans, learn your state's license process, set up your mail, review insurance options, and map out Korean markets, clinics, and churches nearby. Each item differs slightly by state, so confirm based on where you live.
